Ahoy, me hearties! Mark your calendars for September 19th because it’s Talk Like A Pirate Day.

Normally we would be at Disneyland parading around with our favorite pirate, Captain Hook, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic we are currently facing, that is not a possibility for us. Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the day in our homes.

Here are 6 fun ways to get in on all the pirate fun with your family come September 19th!
1. Talk like a pirate!
This is pretty mandatory for today. Don’t know much about talking like a pirate? Avast me matey, I have a list below to get you and your family saying ‘yo ho ho all day long.

2. Make a watchlist on Disney+.
I’ve compiled a list below and have separated them into 2 categories to help with choosing which movies are best suited for your family. The left are movies rated G & PG, and the right side are movies rated PG13. These are movies that are available right now on Disney+. Disney + does require a subscription which you can read more about here.

3. Go on a treasure hunt like you would on Tom Sawyer Island.
You can really go all out here. Start with making a treasure map. Along your trail build pillow forts for your kids to go through to enjoy just like they would wondering through the caverns of the island. Add sensory stations, pirate themed of course (coloring station, water station, sensory bin) for them to play with as they wonder down the trial of the map. Don’t forget to leave a small surprise for your kids to find where “ X marks the spot”. A snack, chocolate coins, small toy, the options are really endless here. Just have fun and use your imagination!
4. Make 3D paper models of your favorite Disney characters.
Add some new pirate mateys to your crew with this 3D craft from Disney Parks Blog. Get your free printable pages here.

5. Read a pirate book.
One of our favorite books just also happens to be the pirate themed book, Disney Parks Presents: Pirates of the Caribbean book. The illustrations take you through the Disneyland attraction as you read the beloved lyrics to “Yo Ho (A Pirates Life for Me)”. We have had our book for years and I purchased it at Disneyland, but their are plenty of other pirate books on the market your kids will enjoy here.

6. Eat like a Disney pirate.
Pirate Night on a Disney cruise is one their most popular events. Thanks to lovely folks from Disney Parks Blog, we have been gifted one of the recipes from the cruise, Guava Glazed Barbecue Ribs. Now you can eat like a pirate from the high seas too!

Now gang way and assemble your crew to get ready to chart course towards a great Talk Like a Pirate Day!
